Flinders Partners is here to serve the University, and operates for the principle purpose of returning financial benefit to the University. The purpose of Flinders Partners as such is to promote, seek, identify, secure and realise opportunities for the commercial exploitation of University IP, contract R&D and consultancies that utilise the skills and knowledge of Flinders University staff.
Flinders Partners sees its role as being one of facilitation, ensuring that researcher’s interests are protected, and that they are given the best chance of success in delivering outcomes with real impact to all parties. Under agreement with the University, Flinders Partners provides services related to partnering with industry on a royalty basis for commercialisation projects, and a set fee-for-service for non-commercialisation projects.
Below is a list of the types of services that Flinders Partners offers to the University. It should be noted that the following list is not prescriptive, nor exhaustive. Once engaged with Flinders Partners we will clarify the scope of services to be provided so that each project is tailored to the needs of all the partners involved: researchers and their faculty, industry collaborators, and project financiers.
- Identify intellectual property arising from research activities
- Identify commercialisation opportunities and mechanisms
- Assess and evaluate forms of IP protection
- Protect, manage and develop commercially viable IP
- Attract and liaise with industry partners, investors, and clients
- Negotiate with industry parties on behalf of Flinders on matters of consulting, contract R&D, licensing, sale, spin-off or partnering involving University intellectual property
- Promote research capabilities and expertise
- Provide in-house training to research staff at Flinders on how to commercialise, and how to partner with industry
